About Metta
What is Metta?
Metta is a Melbourne-based Australian sustainable womenswear brand specialising in premium linen and organic cotton clothing. We design timeless, trans-seasonal pieces crafted exclusively from natural fibres, with a focus on quality, longevity and thoughtful wardrobe building.
Where is Metta based?
Metta is proudly based in the historic Docklands Cotton Mills in Footscray, Melbourne, Australia. Our studio sits along the Maribyrnong River within one of Victoria’s most iconic textile buildings. We are also stocked across the country and overseas in our partner boutiques. See our full stockist list here.
Is Metta an Australian owned fashion brand?
Yes. Metta is Australian owned and operated, with decades of experience in clothing and textile production.
Sustainability & Materials
Is Metta a sustainable fashion brand?
Yes. Sustainability is central to everything we create. We design slow fashion collections using natural fibres such as OEKO-TEX certified linen and organic cotton. Our garments are made to last season after season, reducing the need for constant replacement.
Why does Metta focus on linen and natural fibres?
We specialise in linen clothing because linen is breathable, durable, biodegradable and requires fewer resources to produce compared to synthetic fabrics. Natural fibres are gentler on the skin and better for the environment.
What does OEKO-TEX certified linen mean?
OEKO-TEX certification ensures that our linen fabrics are tested for harmful substances and meet high global safety standards. It guarantees that our garments are safe for skin and responsibly produced.
Is linen sustainable?
Yes. Linen is considered one of the most sustainable natural fibres. Flax requires less water than cotton, fewer pesticides, and is fully biodegradable. Linen garments are also long-lasting, improving their environmental footprint over time.
Fit & Styling
Is Metta clothing trans-seasonal?
Yes. Our collections are designed to be worn year-round. Linen and organic cotton are breathable in summer and ideal for layering in cooler months, making each garment versatile across seasons.
Can Metta pieces be dressed up or down?
Absolutely. Most Metta garments are designed for versatility. They transition effortlessly from day to evening, travel well, and layer beautifully.
How should I care for linen clothing?
We recommend a gentle cold machine wash and air drying where possible. Linen softens with every wear and wash. Avoid high heat drying to preserve the fabric’s longevity.
