"Metta Melbourne has a long-standing relationship with Liberty of London. Since Lynn had the patchwork shop, and from the very early days of Metta, we have worked with their floral printed Cotton Tana Lawn. The Cotton Tana Lawn is a wonderful cloth - a cotton that behaves like silk."

The Flossie Dress is one of our most popular styles. It’s super flattering, with just the right amount of coverage in the generously cut half-sleeves and an elegant, flowing skirt. The existing panelling made this style perfect for a Liberty of London patchwork design.

We began the process by organising the cloth by colour and print. We looked for complementary tones and planned the composition by laying the fabric out in the proposed panels. Once the best composition is achieved, the cloth is cut and sewn here in our Melbourne atelier.

Each dress panel is crafted from vintage and limited-edition Liberty of London prints, including the pockets and facings. On the reverse side, the dresses are meticulously finished with French seams. Meaning there are no raw edges or overlocking, resulting in a beautifully made, high-quality garment. Each dress is individually numbered and labelled with a new white and red 'M.M.' label. Inspired by old French laundry labels, the 'M.M.' label is found only in garments made in-house in Melbourne in very small runs. Look out for more special releases coming soon!

Metta Melbourne has a long-standing relationship with Liberty of London. Lynn has worked with Liberty of London for over 40 years. For those who remember her patchwork shop 'Patchwork on Central Park', it had the largest range of Liberty Print Fabrics in Australia at that time. Since Lynn had the patchwork shop, and from the very early days of Metta, we have created designs in their floral printed Cotton Tana Lawn, selecting the best seasonal prints.

The Cotton Tana Lawn is a wonderful cloth - a cotton that behaves like silk. With a lightweight, fluid handle, the fabric is cooling against the skin. It serves as the perfect canvas for the iconic Liberty of London prints and is easy to care for, being machine-washable.

Style the Liberty of London Patchwork Flossie Dress simply on its own, or layer beautifully over our cotton or silk slips and antique lace Harriet Bloomers or Harper Skirts for additional, delicate detailing. We paired the Patchwork Flossie Dresses with our favourite Plasticana Sunchanvre Sandals and classic ballet pumps (models' own), though any uncomplicated shoe would work well.

After our Liberty of London styles are manufactured, we reserve all remaining fabric from the making process. These offcuts are collected, organised by size and colour, and are reused for in-house projects such as this.

The same offcuts are available in our haberdashery sample packs for your very own at-home craft projects.
